  • How safe are client assets?

    Operationally, client portfolios are managed in a custodial environment. Neither Provisus nor Transcend will ever touch client money directly as cheques are made out to the custodian, Laurentian Bank Securities. The funds are held in Canadian Investor Protection Fund (CIPF) protected accounts in the client’s own name at Laurentian Bank Securities.

    We cannot take possession of client funds. We will not have responsibility for debiting client accounts for payment of bills other than investment management fees which are handled by Laurentian.

    Clients have a complete reporting package available including; daily (online access), monthly regulatory statements directly from the custodian (Laurentian), quarterly statements (Provisus) and year-end tax and transaction documentation (from both Provisus and Laurentian).

  • Who is Provisus Wealth Management Limited?

    The Transcend platform is offered to financial professionals through a referral agreement with Provisus Wealth Management Limited.

    Provisus Wealth Management Limited is a registered Portfolio Manager and Investment Fund Manager, listed in the Profit 500 List of Fastest Growing companies in each of the past three years. Provisus is solely responsible for the implementation and management of the investment portfolios and ongoing asset allocation, including the selection of underlying funds. Transcend is an unregistered financial planning firm and does not provide security selection advice. All fees are paid under referral directly to Provisus.

  • Are you a Robo-Advisor?

    While technology plays a large role in our practice, we believe that the experience of our financial professionals can never be replaced by a robot. We are much more than a Robo-Advisor and consider ourselves to be a hybrid. Additionally, experienced investment professionals provide advice to clients and manage their portfolios on an ongoing basis.

  • What is Pay-for-Performance™?

    Pay-for-Performance is a client-friendly fee structure for actively managed funds. Pay-for-Performance is aimed at improving the quality, efficiency and overall value of how investments are managed. This structure provides a financial incentive for portfolio managers to achieve the best results for clients. Fees are charged quarterly, based on month-end closing market value. If an investor purchases or sells shares during a calendar quarter, the performance fee will be calculated for the period invested. We believe that paying for investment management should be linked to the quality of performance achieved.

  • What types of products are available?

    Transcend provides independent financial professionals with the opportunity to compete in the fast growing Separately Managed Accounts business. By signing up with Transcend, you receive access to all of Provisus’ offerings including:

    Separately Managed Accounts (SMA)

    Transcend, through its parent company, Provisus, works with third party money managers to develop and execute tax efficient investment portfolios. Provisus’ team of portfolio managers take time to understand each client’s constraints and goals through a questionnaire. Then, they construct a unique portfolio to meet the client’s current and future needs. Each stock, bond and exchange traded fund (ETF) is held by an independent custodian in a CIPF protected account in the client’s name.

    Actively Managed ETF Portfolios

    Provisus offers ETF portfolios with professionally managed tactical asset allocation and sector diversification for an all-inclusive fee. ETF portfolios are extremely liquid and offer similar tax advantages to portfolios of stocks and bonds.

    Clients with smaller pocketbooks can access customized and managed tax efficient portfolios that are designed to perform well while protecting assets against downside risk. This is because they are able to access a variety of capital markets and offer diversification with fewer security holdings (since ETFs mimic the underlying stock market). Four ETF portfolios have been designed to enhance performance, diversification and minimize the downside.

    Corporate Class Pooled Funds

    Corporate class pooled funds are a selection of funds designed to offer tax efficient returns and cash flow. When used in combination with other managed account solutions, clients benefit from holistic portfolio and tax management.

    Corporate class pooled fund benefits include withdrawals that can be deemed as return of capital, dividends or capital gains. Capital gains can be deferred and portfolio asset class adjustments made without tax ramifications in some circumstances. Corporate class pooled funds can benefit everyone but especially seniors who don’t want to trigger OAS claw backs, trust accounts for minors, charitable clients and income seekers who require a regular stream of cash flow in the form of capital returns.

    Institutional Equity Portfolios

    Institutional Equity portfolios are stock portfolios designed for growth and stability. These portfolios are for clients that want a tax efficient approach for attaining increased growth and downside protection. Our portfolio managers use an active indexation philosophy for strict risk control and a momentum based approach involving a bottom up stock selection process to diversify the portfolio across all economic sectors.

      There are three portfolios:
    • Canadian Equities - benchmark is the S&P/TSX;
    • U.S. Equities – benchmark is the S&P 500;
    • International Equities – benchmark is the MSCI EAFE.

    The benefit to the investor is the opportunity for enhanced performance plus lower fees. In conjunction with lower fees there is a performance fee to the manager for outperformance achieved relative to the benchmark.
